Solidarity

Photograph of community members gathered at Champ Fleuri in Saint-Denis, Réunion. Tamils from Réunion organized a protest in 2009 against the ongoing genocide of Tamils in Sri Lanka.

In the photo two Tamil students from St. Andrews read a poem about a young Tamil girl from Sri Lanka. The poem was translated from Tamil to French.

Photo from Tamij Sangam Facebook page.

I unfortunately don't have much information about this event, but thought it was powerful moment of solidarity to share (and possibly not well known), how the Tamoul (Tamil) community in Réunion stood in solidarity with Eelam Tamils against the violent Sri Lankan state. I recommend you follow folks directly from Eelam Tamil communities to learn more about the state violence and genocide led by Sri Lanka and how communities have been resisting both in SL and the diaspora.
